NEC CONFIRMS TRUCK BREAKDOWN BUT ASSURES NIMBA VOTERS OF TIMELY DELIVERY OF ELECTORAL MATERIALS

Date:

MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has confirmed that one of six trucks transporting electoral materials for the upcoming Nimba County Senatorial By-election experienced a mechanical failure on Friday, April 18, 2025.

According to the NEC, the truck bearing license plate number C-5211 broke down along the Gbarnga Highway due to a clutch malfunction. The vehicle was carrying translucent ballot boxes filled with non-sensitive polling setup items, including rulers, stamps, scissors, pens, lamps, batteries, ballot box stickers, notepads, and rubber bands. NEC security personnel and Liberia National Police officers were accompanying the truck at the time of the incident.

Despite the setback, the Commission assured the public, particularly residents of Nimba County, that the remaining five trucks, which carried all sensitive electoral materials including ballots, have already arrived safely at the NEC Magisterial Offices in both Lower and Upper Nimba.

The NEC also announced that its Operations Department began dispatching all electoral materials for the by-election from its Central Warehouse on 9th Street, Sinkor earlier this afternoon.

The Commission, through its Communications Director Prince Dunbar, reiterated its commitment to ensuring the smooth conduct of the by-election scheduled for Tuesday.
