BOAKAI, KOFFA IN QUIET TALKS DAYS BEFORE SUPREME COURT DECIDES HOUSE SPEAKERSHIP

Date:

MONROVIA – In a move raising political eyebrows, President Joseph N. Boakai on Friday held a private meeting with embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, just days before the Supreme Court is set to rule on a crucial constitutional case that could redefine the leadership of the House of Representatives.

Sources familiar with the development told Spoon Network that the closed-door meeting took place at 4 p.m. at the President’s rehab residence on April 18, 2025. The details and intent of the discussion remain undisclosed, but its timing on the eve of a landmark Supreme Court verdict has stirred fresh speculation about the administration’s posture in the ongoing legislative power struggle.

The Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling at noon on Wednesday, April 23, in a Bill of Information filed by Speaker Koffa. The case seeks clarity on the legitimacy of the self-proclaimed Majority Bloc led by Representative Richard N. Koon, who has contested Koffa’s speakership.

At the heart of the legal battle is the constitutional authority to lead the fractured 55th Legislature. The ruling could settle the fierce standoff that has paralyzed House operations and further divided the political establishment. The decision will ultimately determine whether Koffa or Koon holds the lawful title of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Supreme Court’s notice, issued through its Clerk and addressed to Court Marshal Brigadier General Amos B. Kesseh Dickson, Sr., mandates that all parties or their lawyers be present for the judgment.
