MONROVIA – In a remarkable display of strength and determination, thousands of Liberians defied a torrential downpour on Sunday as they poured into the streets of Monrovia to support the opposition Unity Party (UP) during the launch of their campaign. Led by standard bearer Vice President Joseph Boakai, UP supporters flooded the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, overwhelming the venue and surpassing the turnout witnessed during the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) campaign launch. The enthusiastic crowd traveled from various parts of the capital, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the party’s cause.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, Liberians from all walks of life flocked to the streets, clad in UP-branded attire and carrying placards with slogans denouncing corruption and calling for change. The heavy rain did little to dampen their spirits as they chanted slogans and sang songs of solidarity throughout their march. The sheer number of participants almost doubled the attendance recorded at the CDC’s campaign launch, underscoring the growing support for the opposition party.
