MONROVIA – A presidential aide to President George Weah, Mr. Sekou Kalasco Damaro, has threatened an end to the life of opposition leader Joseph N. Boakai of the Unity Party.
In reaction to a statement recently made by Boakai on a campaign trail in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, when the UP standard bearer declared that any act of vote-rigging in next month’s elections would mean the end of Liberia, Damaro retorted that it would not be the end of Liberia, rather it would be an end to Boakai’s life.
Neither Boakai, nor Damaro has elaborated on how vote-rigging in Liberia’s impending elections would bring the country to an end, or in the case of the latter, how it would be an end to Boakai, but the Unity Party has since issued a disclaimer stating that its standard bearer spoke in context and that those criticizing him are doing so without properly contextualizing what their leader said.
Since he made the statement at the weekend, Boakai has come under increasing criticism from several Liberians, especially from supporters of incumbent President Weah and his ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) party.
Ruling party’s campaign spokesman Cllr. Kanio Gba Gbala, last yesterday termed Boakai’s statement as one authored by an individual who is recklessly promoting violence in the country.
Gbala further described the UP man’s assertion as being provocative and harmful.
Sekou Damaro, I hope you will be ready to answer charges under a new government for threatening the life of a presidential candidate, Joe N. Boakai. You are clearly one of those uneducated CDC zealots whose belly-driven behavior is destroying the country. Just know that nothing lasts forever, and the day of reckoning will come–hopefully very soon.
