GBARPOLU SENATOR-ELECT KONNEH TURNS TO GOD FOR DIRECTION – AS HE TAKES OATH OF OFFICE TODAY

Date:

MONROVIA – Ahead of a legislative ceremony formally marking his induction into office as a lawmaker, Gbarpolu County Senator-elect, Amara Mohamed Konneh, has turned to God in prayer for direction.

The ceremony which is poised to be characterized by legislative elections for a Speaker and Senate President Pro Tempore at the seat of the country’s bi-camera Legislature, the Capitol Building, is slated to take place today, when Konneh and 14 of his colleagues will be sworn into office at the Liberian Senate.

Howbeit, as he takes his oath of office today along with 14 others, Konneh, an avowed Muslim, in a Fajr prayer posted online early this morning, prayed to God for wisdom, to properly execute his functions as a senator. In the Islamic faith, the Fajr prayer, also known as the dawn prayer, is one of the five mandatory Islamic prayers, to be performed anytime starting from the moment of dawn, but not after sunrise.

Under Liberian laws, Konneh, as a senator, is statutorily charged with the three-pronged responsibilities of representation, lawmaking, and oversight.

In his prayer, the Gbarpolu County soon-to-be senator made a supplication unto God, to give him direction and wisdom that will enable him to make the right decisions that will be helpful to Liberia.

In his quest to uphold and fulfill the requirements and obligations of a senator, Konneh told God that he looks to no one else, but God.
