MONROVIA – Emmanuel D. Gonquoi, the Commander-In-Chief of the revolutionary political party, Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), has scolded some unnamed officials of the Joe Boakai-led government, whom he accused of proceeding wrongly during the first 100 days of the new administration.
In a thank-you note to President Boakai, whose performance for his first 100 days in office Gonquoi on Thursday, appraised as being insightful, for which he graded the 79-year-old high marks for his leadership, the EFFL leader emphasized that even though few officials of government are acting very badly, the Liberian leader should be proud of his government’s overall success in its first 100 days.
He vowed to openly confront officials of government who he says will make mistakes but noted that such officials will also be corrected internally for effectiveness sake in the Boakai-led government.
However, he warned that if they don’t listen like the Director of the Executive Protection Service (EPS), Sam Gaye, “we will deal with them and treat them like [the] enemy.”
He told President Boakai that Liberia and Liberians deserve much better, adding that with JNB at the helm of leadership, a new Liberia is possible, reminding the Liberian leader that the EFFL is loyal to Liberia and not any individual.
He acknowledged that so much progress has been made within the first 100 days of the new administration, but was quick to point out that not much has been done by some government officials to share such success stories, informing President Boakai that several of his officials have reached what he described as the “Promised Land” and as such, are now feeling too big to even post on social media the progress being made by government.
“Mr. President, they don’t even pick up their [phone] calls anymore,” Gonquoi claimed, indicating that scores of youthful Liberians who supported Joe Boakai for the presidency and ensured his current officials now have lucrative jobs are now being considered less of human beings by these very officials.
He expressed the hope that the accused officials would have a change of mind. However, he vowed that at the end of Joe Boakai’s first 100 days in office, he will personally confront such individuals who he claims are currently in officialdom.
“Mr. President, we will openly confront people who make mistakes, but we will also correct them internally for the effectiveness of your Government. If they don’t listen like the EPS boss, we will deal with them and treat them like [the] enemy,” Gonquoi maintained.
He described the Boakai’s administration first 100 days in office as “Progress in Motion”, recounting that during such period, a lot of positive things were achieved, such as the rehabilitation of several important roadways in rural Liberia.
He informed the President that Liberians, especially those in southeastern Liberia, where the majority of the road rehabilitation works are currently ongoing, are thankful to the Liberian leader, adding that several other Liberians are beginning to believe that, during JNB’s six-year reign, something greater is feasible.
“The NIC is busy reviewing various offers from potential partners as the hotel business in Liberia begins to bustle with customers. Our nation’s reputation abroad is improving, and foreign business associates are returning home. Entities that generate revenue, like Freeport, are progressing. On the wall, progress indicators are visible,” said Gonquoi, who indicated that Liberia’s international partners’ commitment, which hasn’t been mentioned or shown in the last six years is now forthcoming because of leadership on the part of President Boakai.
