MONTSERRADO COUNTY LAWMAKER CHALLENGES LDEA OFFICIAL OVER DRUG TRAFFICKING ALLEGATIONS

Date:

MONROVIA – Montserrado County District 3 Representative, Sumo K. Mulbah, has taken a strong stance against allegations of drug trafficking leveled against lawmakers by the Deputy for Operations of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Hassan Fadiga. Representative Mulbah has vowed to invite Fadiga to clarify his statements and provide evidence to support his claims.

The lawmaker’s criticism of Fadiga arose from statements made recently by Fadiga during the arrest of Liberian entrepreneur BaBa 2switt on alleged drug trafficking charges. Fadiga stated, “The day there’s credible evidence and we’re able to adduce credible evidence through our intelligence and investigation that a lawmaker or anyone else is involved in drug trafficking, we will arrest them…”

However, in a statement recently, Rep. Mulbah dismissed the allegations as baseless and described them as a false alarm intended to tarnish the reputation of lawmakers and turn the public against them. He emphasized that the 55th legislature, including himself, had played a crucial role in amending drug laws and had also undergone drug testing, demonstrating their commitment to combating drug trafficking in Liberia.

The lawmaker expressed disappointment over Fadiga’s remarks, noting that they come at a time when the legislature is actively working to address the issue of drug trafficking, which poses a significant threat to Liberian society.

Representative Mulbah called on Fadiga to provide reasons for singling out lawmakers as targets for arrest under the LDEA’s operations. He intends to formally request this information when the House of Representatives resumes its session for the 2nd quarter later this month.

The lawmaker’s response highlights the seriousness with which he and other members of the legislature view the issue of drug trafficking and underscores their commitment to upholding the law and protecting the interests of the Liberian people.
