MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a press statement released on Saturday, May 10th, 2024, the Revolutionary National Youth League-CDC strongly refutes what it describes as baseless allegations made by PLO Lumumba during his recent appearance on a local radio station in Liberia. Lumumba claimed that former President George Weah did not bring millionaire footballers to invest in Liberia for the country’s development, a statement that the Youth League vehemently disagrees with.
The Youth League expressed disappointment that Lumumba, who self-proclaims to be a Pan-Africanist, would advocate for dependence on Western footballers to develop an African country. This contradicts the fundamental principles and philosophy of pan-Africanism, which emphasize African unity, self-reliance, and indigenous development. It is disheartening to see someone who calls for African unity now blaming the CDC political leader for not bringing foreign soccer stars to develop Liberia. It is evident that Lumumba has become a hired mouthpiece for failed politicians across Africa, who pay him to further their political agendas under the guise of promoting Pan-Africanism.
Lumumba’s credibility is questionable, stated the Youth League. “Considering his controversial tenure as the head of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission in 2011. Despite his rhetoric, Lumumba failed to prosecute a single corrupt individual during his time in office. It is perplexing how he has managed to reinvent himself as a moral voice in Africa, when in reality, his only means of survival is being paid by politicians to peddle their propaganda.”
“We are not surprised by Lumumba’s recent rantings against former Weah, as we are well aware of his pharisaical nature.”
“The failed leadership of the Unity Party within their first 100 days in office necessitates the blaming of the previous government led by CDC. However, the Liberian people can see through these tactics, as they experience firsthand the lack of development and worsening living conditions under the current administration,” the press statement indicated.
Additionally, the Youth League in the press statement commends the bravery and resilience shown by all motorcyclists in Liberia for standing against the oppressive policy of a “no-go zone.”
“We stand in solidarity with them in defense of their constitutional right to freedom of movement, which must not be infringed upon by partisan police actions. We warn the UP police and Gregory Coleman to cease their unconstitutional activities, which could destabilize the peace and stability of our country,” the Youth League’s press statement concluded .
