An Opinion By Bishop Dr. Rudolph Q. Kwanue, Sr
A loyal and proud citizen of Liberia
Since 1822, America’s support for Liberia has been minimal, especially considering its supposed role as Liberia’s “mother nation.” Despite this relationship, the U.S. supports other nations more generously than Liberia.
Liberia should ideally have a visa-free agreement with America, yet the U.S. continues to collect millions in visa fees from Liberians each year. While over 50 nations enjoy visa waivers, Liberia remains marginalized.
Over the years, America has waived visas restrictions to more than 50 nations of the world, and yet, Liberia is continually being marginalized in this regard.
And this is why I have unequivocally support every single word that points in this direction as released by the orator on the occasion of Liberia’s 177th independence anniversary.
America really needs to understand what freedom of speech is all about.
She is right to say anything that’s not against the law.
Her statement that “The United States of America has taken more from us than we have received” is in order.
And she was right when she said” Liberia is nobody’s stepdaughter”.
These statements are facts and am in full support.
Even the congress for Democratic Change, and the Unity Party Chairpersons and every other person that speaks against her statement are pretenders. If I were the one served as the orator, I would say more than that because America has not demonstrated enough to prove her role as a mother nation to Liberia. Or is this how a mother treats her children?
When last was it recorded that an America President visited Liberia since the George Bush period?
Up till now, Liberians still struggle hard to obtain a visa to visit her mother country America.
Is this right in any sense? Never!
The day that God will bless with such an amazing opportunity to speak out on such national occasions, I will really speak my mind.
Because most of us have really not been privileged to speak on such national occasions and issues.
What else would you expect from an educator and activist like the orator in question?
You better leave this girl alone.
Your thoughts that she was coming to make fun or just give praises for nothing?
My girl, you’re right in your message, and I say to you, congratulations!
You have my support.
As for me, I don’t pretend in whatever I do or say.
While it is true that the presence of the US is in Liberia through their embassy, it is also true that they have never applied any meaningful effort as a mother nation to develop Liberia and make it a nation among the league of nations.
Liberia is a daughter country to America, and there’s nothing bad in a daughter expressing her mind to her mother.
She can share blame, cry out and criticize her where and when necessary.
This is the fundermental right of a child.
If mama gets angry she is free to leave.
One day, she will come to herself and say, sorry baby Liberia, I actually forgot my responsibilities to you as a mother.
When your mother is not taking good care of you, you should speak out because you have the mouth and the right to do so, and I will talk.
The former President Barack Obama never one day stepped his feet on Liberia as a US president all through his tenure, neither his wife, another to Liberia indeed!
Barack Obama visited many African Countries including his homeland Kenya as an American president.
Former President Donald Trump, his wife and children didn’t stepped their feet on the Liberia soil, but they visited Ghana and other African Nations.
My question is , what has Liberia done so much to always deserve these sad and unbelievable treatments from America?
Remember, that in the entire world, France has over 19 countries colonized by her, Britain the same, Portugal the same, and the only single county which America has is Liberia but unfortunately, there’s gross denial traits, America has denied us.
America believe that it was not their government that recognized us, but rather, it was a private NGO known as America Colonization Society (ACS).
What a disgrace to us Liberia as a nation and a people?
We are still forcing ourselves on our so-called mother and our so-called mother is pushing us away.
During the periods of Ebola and Corona Virus, America as a mother, we believe, sat down unconcerned until China sent Liberia the first medical supplies before our mother started coming in. Is this how you treat the child you cherish? No!
Does America truly love Liberia? To me, the answer is NO! America is just pretending.
Even for the USA to even invite former President George Weah to the white house during his entire six years in office, it wasn’t possible.
Weah has never seen nor reach the White House, and even President Joseph Boakia may never visit the White House.
America’s hate for Liberia is too much.
The US usually invites foreign children nations but not her own daughter Liberia. A mother’s bad attitude towards her daughter.
Tell me, how would George Weah be afraid of his mother nation to do that right thing when the mother who needs to put fear into her child sat down with closed eyes and deaf ears?
I can never support or appreciate America for this.
Even the coming of former President George Bush to give a million books to Liberia was a bunch of disgrace, because its simple meaning was that Liberians are uneducated people.
He said we should read, whereas he had donated millions of dollars to other African countries that he visited before coming to Liberia.
In conclusion, Liberia shouldn’t even make a mistake to invite me one day to speak on such a national occasion, because I’ll definitely talk to my mother America anyhow about all I have seen and experienced.
I don’t blame America as a mother, I blamed the children under her if your mother doesn’t love you, don’t force yourself on her.
Stay away, because at her old age, she will know the importance and value of children.
