LIBERIA AND US SIGN $114.4 MILLION AGREEMENT TO SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

Date:

MONROVIA – On November 13, 2024, the United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Liberia, represented by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), announced more than $114.4 million in funding for development initiatives designed to enhance economic growth by fostering reform and cultivating a healthy and educated workforce.

Since the original signing of the $640 million, five-year Development Objective Agreement in May 2020, USAID has provided annual funding to advance Liberia’s development priorities. To date, $489.9 million has been committed under this agreement, including this year’s addition of $114.4 million. Government of Liberia’s Minister of Finance, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, U.S. Ambassador Mark Toner and Mission Director Jim Wright announced the agreement which represents a major contribution to Liberia’s development.

“This additional investment is designed to support Liberian-led interventions in health, education, strategic reforms and market-driven inclusive economic growth. Through these funds, USAID programs help provide training for teachers, deliver health commodities to communities, and expand access to electricity in Liberia. By working together, the U.S. Government and the Government of Liberia aim to ensure that every dollar contributes to lasting, positive outcomes for the Liberian people.” stated the U.S. Ambassador, Mark Toner.

These funds align with mutually established goals to strengthen Liberia’s institutions, improve economic resilience, foster inclusive growth, strengthen the foundations of good governance, increase access to education and improve the health of the Liberian people.

“America has always stood by our side as a strong partner in progress. We are grateful for your support and remain committed to working together,” Minister Ngafuan said, calling for a strengthened partnership to advance Liberia’s agenda.

This partnership highlights the enduring ties between the United States and Liberia and underscores both nations’ commitment to impactful, sustainable progress.
