PRESIDENT JOSEPH BOAKAI’S DEPARTURE FOR U.S. BUSINESS CONFERENCE RAISES EYEBROWS

MONROVIA – President Joseph Boakai has embarked on a journey to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend the 124th National Black Business Conference, but his decision to leave behind key officials responsible for business and investment oversight has sparked significant criticism.

In a press release from the Executive Mansion, it was confirmed that President Boakai’s delegation includes Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet; Mamaka Bility, Minister of State Without Portfolio; Dr. Augustine Konneh, Senior Adviser; and Ambassador Emmet Kennedy, Chief of Protocol. The President also brought along his support staff, including personnel for communications, media, security, and personal matters.

However, the absence of critical figures such as the Minister of Commerce and the head of the National Investment Commission has raised questions among economists and business leaders. Senior Liberian economist Sam Jackson took to social media to voice his concerns, stating, “How can you go to a business conference and not take business leaders? Or your Minister of Commerce? National Investment Commission head?”

Jackson’s remarks reflect a growing sentiment among the public that the lack of participation from those directly involved in business and investment oversight undermines the potential benefits of the conference. Critics argue that engaging with business leaders and investment officials is essential for fostering economic growth and enhancing Liberia’s business climate.

As President Boakai represents Liberia at this significant event, the decision to omit key officials from his delegation may have lasting implications for the country’s economic strategies and partnerships. The President’s focus on building international relations will undoubtedly be scrutinized in light of these omissions.
