REPRESENTATIVE YEKEH KOLUBAH CONDEMNS LNP AND CDC STANDOFF, CALLS FOR RESTRAINT AND UNITY

Date:

LIBERIA – Following a tense standoff yesterday between supporters of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah issued a statement today expressing his deep concern over the escalating political tensions in Liberia.

Rep. Kolubah, who is currently out of the country, began his statement with a heartfelt expression of his connection to Liberia, despite his physical absence. “Though I’m not in the country, my heart and soul are back home. My country that I love so much is on the path of backwardness. It saddens me,” he wrote.

He strongly condemned the incident involving the LNP and CDC supporters, describing it as a dangerous escalation of violence that threatens the country’s fragile peace. “I strongly condemn the recent incident involving the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). Let me express deep concern over the rising tensions and violence that have marred the political landscape of Liberia, urging all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritize peace,” Kolubah stated.

Rep. Kolubah emphasized the importance of unity and non-violence during this critical period in Liberia’s democratic journey. He called on all Liberians to uphold these values, stressing that the actions of both law enforcement and political supporters should reflect a commitment to peace and stability. “As Liberians, it is crucial to uphold the values of unity and non-violence, especially during this critical period of the nation’s democratic journey,” he said.

Addressing the LNP specifically, Kolubah urged the police to maintain professionalism and avoid actions that could be seen as provocative. “I’m calling on the LNP to maintain professionalism in their conduct and non-provocation of actions to ensure that the rights of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, are respected and protected,” he noted.

At the same time, Kolubah appealed to CDC supporters to refrain from engaging in actions that could escalate tensions or lead to unrest. “I appeal to CDCians to avoid actions that could provoke unrest or lead to further escalation,” he added.

Rep. Kolubah underscored the importance of preserving Liberia’s hard-won peace and warned against political conflicts that could jeopardize the country’s stability. He called for understanding and collaboration among all stakeholders to resolve disputes amicably and move the country forward.

“The peace and stability of Liberia must take precedence over partisan interests, and every citizen has a role to play in preserving the nation’s unity and democratic gains,” Kolubah concluded.

Kolubah’s statement comes at a time when Liberia is experiencing heightened political tensions, and his call for restraint and unity resonates with many who fear that the country’s hard-won peace could be at risk. As the political climate remains uncertain, the need for dialogue and cooperation among all political actors is more crucial than ever.
