LIBERIAN JOURNALIST ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION AT RADIO STATION

Date:

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested Nana Gyamfi, a 28-year-old journalist, for the illegal possession of a firearm. According to a police press release issued on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Gyamfi was apprehended earlier that day at Kwatekeh Radio Station, located on the Capital By-pass in Monrovia, following a tip-off.

The firearm was discovered in Gyamfi’s bag at the radio station, where he has been employed for just two weeks. In his statement to the police, Gyamfi claimed that he obtained the firearm from an unidentified man in the Johnsonville community, where he resides. He stated that he carried the gun for protection while commuting to work.

The suspect is currently in custody at the LNP Headquarters, where he is undergoing further investigation. The LNP has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and vowed to continue enforcing the laws of Liberia without fear or favor.

The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help maintain public safety.
