Date:

MONROVIA, OCTOBER 7, 2024 – Ten Magna Cum Laude graduates from the 104th Graduation Class of the University of Liberia, all members of the prestigious “Society of Academic Honor,” paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Josephus M. Gray, at his Fendall Campus office on Monday, October 7, 2024.

The delegation, led by the President of the 104th Graduation Class, Mr. Richard Twah, Jr., comprised the following distinguished graduates: Martin Harris, BSc in Chemistry, Valedictorian (GPA 3.633); Rukayat T. Raji, BSc in Biomedical Science (GPA 3.57); Julius Doety Tarpeh, BSc in Biochemistry (GPA 3.549); Anthony B. Saah-Bonkie, BSc in Public Health (GPA 3.537); Jones K. Tellewoyan, BSc in General Agriculture (GPA 3.537); Arthur S. Davies, BSc in Biomedical Science (GPA 3.5293); Emmanuel M. Wolonvah, BSc in Biochemistry (GPA 3.525); Amadou L. Sayon, Bachelor of Social Work (GPA 3.521); Roosevelt N. Baamie, BSc in Chemistry (GPA 3.5143); and Abraham Z. Lomie, BA in Gender Studies (GPA 3.512).

The purpose of their visit was to discuss with Dr. Gray the prospect of securing scholarships to pursue master’s degrees abroad in their respective fields of study.

In a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Gray praised the graduates for their remarkable academic achievements. “It is wonderful to see all that members of the graduating class have accomplished in pursuing their goals,” he stated. He encouraged the graduates to continue striving for excellence, reminding them that the key to personal growth is having clear goals and a sense of direction in life, as well as helping to uplift others.

Dr. Gray emphasized that their academic success had placed them in a strong position to serve their families, communities, and the nation at large. He advised them to remain humble, listen more, and speak less. “You will always face competition in the market, but I urge you to serve as true ambassadors—listen attentively, and approach critical situations peacefully, without violence,” he said.

He further advised them to embrace risk and learning opportunities, stating, “The best way to grow is by taking the risk of being wrong. Don’t stand safely on the sidelines; instead, build a philosophy of generous listening and approach challenges constructively.”

Dr. Gray also assured the graduates of his support in helping them advance their educational goals. He specifically encouraged Martin Harris, the class valedictorian, to take advantage of the full scholarship offered to the University of Liberia by Sharda University. He added that the other graduates would also have access to promising opportunities for further studies abroad.

Dr. Gray pledged to assist the graduates in various ways to ensure they succeed in their academic and professional endeavors.
