FORMER PRESIDENT WEAH CRITICIZED OVER VIRAL DANCING VIDEO AMID NATIONAL CONCERNS

Date:

MONROVIA – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2024 – Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, has publicly expressed his displeasure over a viral social media video of former President George M. Weah, accusing him of insensitivity towards Liberia’s current challenges. The video, which features Weah dancing to a popular African song, has garnered significant attention on Facebook, with 3.5K comments, 2.8K shares, and over 580K views as of late Saturday.

In a strongly-worded statement on Satursday, October 12, 2024, Kolubah condemned the video, calling it a “gross display of insensitivity” considering the nation’s ongoing struggles. He criticized Weah, saying, “Instead of engaging in frivolous entertainment, George Weah should be addressing the Liberian people regarding pressing issues.”

Kolubah pointed to the recent wave of dismissals within the Executive Protection Service (EPS) and various ministries, where several employees were abruptly removed from their positions without clear justification. He also raised concerns over the recall of diplomats from Liberia’s foreign missions, warning of the serious implications for the country’s international relations and governance.

As a key opposition figure, Kolubah stressed that Weah should use his platform to advocate for those who have been affected by these decisions. “He was knacking and got defeated, and now it’s time for him to stand up for the Liberians and hold the government accountable,” Kolubah stated.

Kolubah concluded his statement by urging the opposition community to unite for the benefit of the Liberian people. Promising to speak to the press soon, he hinted at more to come, saying, “Watch the process and see – the people’s power.”

The criticism comes at a time of heightened public discourse over governance, with Kolubah urging Weah and the opposition to take a more proactive role in addressing the country’s challenges.
