LNP CONDEMNS FENDELL VIOLENCE AND LAUNCHES PROBE INTO ALLEGED POLICE MISCONDUCT

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has condemned the violent disruption along the Fendell route early Friday morning, which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. The incident, sparked by aggrieved motorcyclists blocking the road with burning tires after an alleged motorbike thief killed a fellow rider, prompted swift condemnation from the police.

In a press release issued on Friday, February 28, 2025, and signed by LNP Spokesperson DCP Cecelia G. Clarke, the police extended condolences to the family of the deceased and promised a thorough investigation to ensure justice.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family of the victim and assure them that we will do everything in our power to ensure justice is served,” Clarke said. “We urge all Liberians to exercise extreme caution when visiting Fendell today or avoid the area completely until calm is restored. The safety of citizens and residents is our top priority, and we will not tolerate any actions that compromise it.”

The LNP also confirmed that three police officers accused of looting and sexual assault during the unrest have been disrobed and ordered to submit themselves to the Standard Investigation Unit for questioning.

“We take allegations of misconduct by our officers very seriously,” Clarke added. “We want to assure the public that we will thoroughly investigate these allegations and take swift and decisive action against anyone found to be involved in such reprehensible behavior.”

The police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the law, protecting citizens, and fostering public trust. Investigations into both the motorcyclist’s death and the alleged police misconduct are ongoing.
