MONROVIA – In a gesture symbolizing the enduring ties between India and Liberia, His Excellency Manoj Bihari Verma, Ambassador of India to Liberia, has presented the national motto of India, Satyameva Jayate (“Truth Alone Triumphs”), to Prof. Dr. Josephus M. Gray, Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Liberia.
The symbolic gift was handed over on Monday, March 17, 2025, during a visit by a high-powered delegation from Sharda University in India and the University of Liberia to the Indian Embassy in Mamba Point, Monrovia. The meeting underscored the strengthening of academic cooperation and India’s ongoing commitment to Liberia’s educational and technological advancement.
Dr. Gray, in receiving the symbol, expressed deep appreciation to Ambassador Verma and the Indian government for their unwavering support toward the academic and professional development of young Liberians. He highlighted the importance of Liberia-India relations, particularly in education, and emphasized the critical role of the Amos C. Sawyer College in shaping the future of Liberia’s workforce.
“The collaboration between Liberia and India is one that continues to yield immense benefits for our students and faculty. India’s investment in capacity-building and higher education has significantly contributed to the empowerment of many young Liberians,” Dr. Gray remarked.
Ambassador Verma, for his part, reaffirmed India’s commitment to fostering educational opportunities for Liberian students, particularly in the fields of technology and higher learning. He encouraged Liberian youth to seize the numerous scholarship programs offered by the Indian government to pursue advanced degrees in various disciplines.
