MDR PETITIONS NEC OVER ALLEGED VIOLATIONS BY NIMBA SENATORIAL CANDIDATES

MONROVIA – The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) has formally called on the National Elections Commission (NEC) to investigate alleged election law violations involving two senatorial candidates in the upcoming Nimba County by-election. In a letter addressed to NEC Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah on Monday, March 31, 2025, the MDR raised concerns about the eligibility of Mr. Tee Wonokay-Farngalo and Madam Edith L. Gongloe-Weh, citing potential breaches that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

According to the MDR’s petition, Mr. Tee Wonokay-Farngalo is alleged to have previously registered and contested as a candidate in District #3, Montserrado County, during the 2023 General and Presidential Elections. The party argues that, if confirmed, this raises legal questions about his qualification to now seek an elective position in Nimba County. The party contends that such an act could be in direct conflict with Liberia’s election laws governing voter registration and residency requirements for candidates.

The MDR also alleges that Madam Edith L. Gongloe Weh registered for the upcoming by-election through a proxy, specifically her sister, rather than appearing in person as required by law. If substantiated, this act could constitute a serious violation of election regulations and call into question the legitimacy of her candidacy.
