JOHNSONVILLE – A disturbing case of child abuse has triggered outrage in Kpelleh Town, Johnsonville, Montserrado County, after a 10-year-old boy was allegedly tortured by his uncle in an incident that has shocked the local community and sparked calls for urgent government intervention.
According to eyewitness accounts, the brutal act took place early Sunday morning, July 27, 2025, after the uncle, identified only as Daniel, sent the boy to purchase razor blades and pepper. Upon returning with the items, the child was reportedly locked inside the home by Daniel, who then launched a savage assault that left the boy with multiple injuries.
Residents of the area say Daniel beat the child mercilessly, cut him with razor blades, and rubbed pepper into the open wounds. The boy, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, was later seen by neighbors in a severely traumatized state, prompting swift alarm and public condemnation.
The matter is currently being investigated at the Johnsonville Turning Point Police Station. However, growing concerns among residents suggest that the case may not be handled with the seriousness it deserves. Several locals expressed fear that the accused is attempting to influence the outcome of the investigation or suppress the case entirely.
“This is beyond discipline,” one community member said. “This is torture. If something is not done quickly, that child could have died. We’re afraid this matter will just be brushed aside because of connections.”
Community leaders and child rights advocates are now appealing to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to step in immediately. They argue that the severity of the case warrants the full attention of national authorities and that leaving the matter solely in the hands of local police could lead to a cover-up.
A local child protection volunteer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the boy remains physically and emotionally shaken and is in need of urgent psychosocial support. “This is a child who has been violated in the worst possible way by someone he trusted. We need to ensure he receives not just justice, but care and counseling,” the volunteer said.
The alleged perpetrator, Daniel, has reportedly given conflicting accounts of the incident and is said to be attempting to justify his actions as punishment for suspected theft. However, residents insist the punishment was cruel, excessive, and criminal.
