LDEA ARRESTS FIVE GUINEANS IN ZWEDRU, SENDS TWO LIBERIAN WOMEN TO COURT FOR DRUG OFFENSES

ZWEDRU, GRAND GEDEH COUNTY — The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal drug activities with multiple arrests across the country, including five Guinean nationals in Zwedru and two Liberian women in Monrovia.

In Grand Gedeh County, officers of the LDEA arrested five Guinean nationals on October 22, 2025, at about 3:09 p.m. in Zwedru City. The operation, conducted under a search and seizure warrant at Polgal Pharmacy, led to the confiscation of 78 strips and five pieces of Tramadol, LD$660,000, US$500, twenty-six rounds of single-barrel gun ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a book.

According to an official release signed by G. Olando Demey, Chief of the Public Relations Department of the LDEA, the suspects identified as Amadou Barry, 40; Ashar Barr, 21; Abu Layee Sow, 38; Mamadu Jallah, 25; and Alimatu Jallah, 18 are currently detained at the LDEA headquarters in Zwedru for investigation. The agency stated that all non-drug-related items will be turned over to the appropriate authorities, while drug-related charges will proceed under Liberia’s new drug law.

Meanwhile, in separate operations in Monrovia, the LDEA has forwarded two female suspects to court for alleged involvement in drug trafficking. The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Decontee Gray and 39-year-old Felicia Doe, were apprehended with significant quantities of Kush in different parts of the city.

Gray was arrested on October 18 in Duala around 6:45 p.m. with Kush valued at approximately LD$117,800, while Doe was nabbed on October 20 in New Kru Town around 4:30 p.m. with Kush worth about LD$91,200. Both women have been charged with illegal possession of narcotics under Liberia’s new drug law and are now awaiting court proceedings.

The LDEA reaffirmed its commitment to combating the growing wave of drug trafficking and abuse across Liberia, warning that no individual or group involved in narcotics activities will escape the reach of the law.
