“MOST POLITICIANS LIE,” SAYS CENTAL BOSS

Date:

MONROVIA – Anderson D. Miamen, Executive Director of the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) is urging Liberians to be mindful of politicians this election year, adding during the elections period is when most politicians lie to paint their opponents black or unduly present themselves as the best option when in reality they are not.

Liberia’s National Elections Commission is expected to conduct legislative and presidential elections on 10 October 2023.

Miamen, one of Liberia’s outspoken anti-corruption and human rights activists in a Facebook post dubbed “Little Things That Matter” cautioned Liberians to be beware of both fake and genuine politicians…

According to Miamen’s post, during elections times, many fake promises are made; adding, “Politicians appear to care when in reality they don’t; politicians become/appear accessible and receptive to citizens’ plights; and monies stole over the years by corrupt politicians and other individuals are used to winning votes/the people over.”

He continued: “On the other hand, it is the time those who appear genuine and authentic in their politicking (people with good track records and proven history of integrity and simple lifestyles) make their case to be elected.

“More importantly, it is the foremost period citizens have to reward their leaders for their service (s) to the nation, especially those working in government or serving in public service.”

“So, let’s be careful and thorough in the decisions we make. Let us carefully examine those seeking our votes, for any mistakes made to elect corrupt and bad leaders will live us for the next 6 years and more.”

“Any handouts received to waste our votes will negatively impact ourselves and society. The future can only be bright if we make informed decisions and choices, as this is what true democracy requires/envisages”, Miamen stressed.
