A major trade could be in the works which would turn the NBA on its head.
Kyrie Irving, who is a free agent at the end of his contract with the Mavericks, has been trying to recruit LeBron James to try to get him to join the Dallas franchise.
That would reunite the two stars, who have a great relationship even though they didn’t end on the best terms when they were with the Cavaliers.
In order for the move, reported by journalist Shams Charania to materialise, Irving and LeBron would have to reduce their salaries considerably in order to avoid busting the Mavericks‘ salary cap.
And it remains to be seen what would happen with Luka Doncic, who has been the franchise player so far.
If the three of them were to combine, it would be a ‘Big Three’ that would make the franchise the front runner for a ring next season.
LeBron in exchange for Doncic?
Another option is for the Slovenian point guard to leave Dallas to make room for the arrival of LeBron, who still has one season left on his contract in Los Angeles and a player option for another.
When Irving left the Nets, there was already speculation that he would be reunited with James at the Lakers.
In the end it didn’t happen and he ended up joining the Mavericks, who ended up crashing and even giving up the chance to fight for the play-in.
The controversial point guard’s contract is up and it is not known if he will remain in Dallas. If his friend LeBron arrives, it would undoubtedly be a great incentive for him to stay.
On the other hand, LeBron and Doncic have always shown great mutual respect for each other.
There have been many games in which they have chatted amicably at the end and praised each other.
Playing together is an option that Irving has begun to cultivate by making contact with the Lakers forward. Source: marca.com
