BOAKAI ADMINISTRATION BACKS SUPREME COURT RULING, URGES LAWMAKERS TO UPHOLD NATIONAL INTEREST

Date:

MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia has welcomed the Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding the ongoing leadership conflict in the House of Representatives, calling it a timely opportunity for legislators to shift focus from internal disputes to national service.

At the Ministry of Information’s regular press conference, Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, speaking on behalf of the Boakai administration, expressed deep concern over the lingering impasse within the legislature. He warned that the continued standoff is derailing the country’s development priorities and eroding public confidence in Liberia’s democratic institutions.

“This internal disagreement poses a real threat to the gains we’re striving to make in national governance and development,” Minister Piah cautioned.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the independence of all branches of government but stressed the need for lawmakers to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling. Piah encouraged legislators to use the verdict as a platform for reconciliation and political resolution, emphasizing ongoing government efforts to mediate, including consultations with the Traditional Council.

Calling for a return to legislative duties, Piah urged lawmakers to put aside personal and partisan agendas in favor of collective progress.

“Our path to recovery demands unity and shared sacrifice. Their constitutional duty is to serve the nation, not self,” he said.

The government also acknowledged members of the legislature who have already resumed their responsibilities and expressed hope that the House will soon reunite to advance President Boakai’s ARREST Agenda for inclusive national development.
