MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a decisive crackdown on medical malpractice, the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice’s Public Safety Division, the Liberia National Police, the Montserrado County Health Team, and with support from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), has arrested Abraham Kamara, a man accused of impersonating a medical doctor and conducting a botched surgery that resulted in the death of Madam Dorcas Vondeh.
Kamara was apprehended on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Masalam Medical Clinic on Kebbah Road. The arrest was the outcome of a joint operation led by Deputy Director of Public Safety, John Bass Golokeh, following a national alert and manhunt launched by the LMDC on March 25, 2025.
“We mourn the tragic loss of Madam Vondeh and extend our heartfelt sympathies to her loved ones,” said LMDC Public Relations Officer James Emmanuel D. Cole Jr. “This case sends a clear warning that Liberia will not tolerate unlicensed individuals endangering lives under the guise of medical care.”
Kamara, former owner of the now shuttered ABC Clinic in Gardnersville and ABC Annex 2 in Kakata, Margibi County, is accused of performing surgery without any medical credentials on 39-year-old Vondeh on March 16, 2025, a procedure that cost her life.
In response, LMDC promptly closed both facilities and collaborated with national agencies to pursue justice. The Council also expressed gratitude to members of the public who shared vital information that helped lead to Kamara’s capture.
Deputy Director Golokeh praised the public’s role in the investigation and emphasized the state’s commitment to protecting lives. “This arrest marks a major step forward in safeguarding our citizens. We will not allow imposters to operate unchecked. Anyone found practicing medicine without proper licensing will face the full force of the law,” he said.
