GRAND GEDEH, LIBERIA – Grand Gedeh Bar Association President Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala says recent progress by Africa Metallic Resources Inc. toward the acquisition and development of the Putu Iron Ore Project has renewed hopes for jobs, investment and economic opportunities in Grand Gedeh and surrounding counties.
Gbala welcomed AMR’s progress on the long-dormant project while stressing that the potential economic impact of Putu should be connected directly to the people and communities in Grand Gedeh.
The project has remained dormant for an extended period, making the latest movement particularly important for residents who have long anticipated economic activity from one of the county’s major natural resource prospects.
Gbala said the renewed attention surrounding Putu presents an opportunity for Grand Gedeh, but urged AMR to establish strong relationships with local stakeholders as it moves forward.
“We welcome AMR’s progress, but successful mining requires more than agreements in Monrovia,” Gbala said. “We challenge AMR to engage the GGBA, county authorities, communities, traditional leaders, youth, women and other relevant actors from the beginning.”
The statement from Gbala places both economic opportunity and local participation at the center of the renewed conversation surrounding Putu. The Grand Gedeh Bar Association says development of the project could generate opportunities beyond direct mining employment, including activities linked to transportation, construction, services and other businesses.

AMR describes itself as an Africa-focused investment firm incorporated in Liberia with interests in drilling for and extracting natural resources, processing, marketing and transportation, as well as construction and management of port and transport infrastructure. The company is an affiliate of Conex Group.
The company’s stated areas of interest indicate that the potential development of Putu could involve activities extending beyond the extraction of iron ore itself. Any associated transportation, infrastructure and support services could create additional areas of economic activity if the project advances.
The Grand Gedeh Bar Association says the key issue is ensuring that the potential economic benefits are connected to host communities through meaningful participation and sustainable development.
Gbala’s position also reflects the need to manage expectations as renewed attention is placed on the project. Residents who have waited for years for Putu to advance may expect rapid employment and investment opportunities, making clear communication important as the project moves through its development process.
