MOTHER ALLEGES NEGLIGENCE AFTER SON’S DEATH AT ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC HOSPITAL

Date:

MONROVIA – The grieving mother of 20-year-old Isaiah Benedicto Williams has accused St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Monrovia of medical negligence, claiming that a wrongful procedure led to her son’s untimely death. Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Madam Veronica B. Teah said her only child died during what hospital staff described as a routine surgery, a loss she believes could have been avoided.

Williams, who was preparing to travel to Rwanda on January 13, 2025, for his studies, passed away on December 23, 2024, just two days before Christmas. Madam Teah, devastated by the loss, said she had been assured by the hospital that the procedure was minor and would be handled with utmost care. “They promised me my son would be fine. I trusted them, but they took him away from me,” she tearfully recounted.

According to Madam Teah, she had initially considered seeking treatment abroad for her son but decided against it after being reassured by the hospital’s staff. “I didn’t want him traveling sick. They told me it wasn’t serious and that he would recover quickly. Three hours later, they told me my son was gone,” she added.

The hospital has yet to respond publicly to the allegations, but the case has sparked outrage among Liberians, with others stepping forward to share similar stories of alleged negligence at the facility. Calls for accountability are mounting, with the Williams family and other affected individuals demanding a thorough investigation into the hospital’s practices and justice for those who have lost their loved ones.

For now, St. Joseph Catholic Hospital remains silent amid the growing clamor for answers. The tragic death of Isaiah Williams has left a deep void in his family’s life and raised urgent questions about the quality of care provided at one of Liberia’s prominent medical institutions.
