MONROVIA – The Liberian Senate has inducted Nya D. Twayen Jr. as the newest Senator of Nimba County, following his certification by the National Elections Commission (NEC) as the winner of the April 22, 2024, by-election.
The induction ceremony was presided over by Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence, who administered the oath of office and officially welcomed Senator Twayen to the Senate.
Senator Twayen’s election fills the vacancy left by His Excellency Jeremiah K. Koung, who was elected Vice President of Liberia after serving as Senator for three years.
In accordance with Rule 1, Sections 1 and 2 of the Senate’s standing rules and procedures, the Senator-elect presented his Certificate of Election and was sworn in by the Secretary of the Senate, J. Nanborlor F. Singbeh, Sr.
Following the oath, Senator Twayen was escorted to his official seat by Senators Edwin M. Snowe, Jr., Prince Moye, and Gbenzongar M. Findley, as directed by Pro Tempore Lawrence. This was followed by greetings and exchanges of pleasantries with his fellow Senators.
In his brief remarks, Senator Twayen expressed gratitude to the people of Nimba for their confidence in electing him as their leader. He emphasized his commitment to promoting unity and improving the livelihoods of Nimba’s citizens. He also urged Nimba’s national leaders to set aside politics and focus on the best interests of the county and its people.
Senate Pro Tempore Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence congratulated Senator Twayen on his election and induction, encouraging him to work collaboratively with the Senate for the benefit of his constituents and the Liberian people.
Senator Twayen will complete the unexpired term of former Senator Jeremiah K. Koung, now Vice President.
