NYANPLU REJECTS UP’S LOBBYING OFFER, CALLS FOR RESCINDING OF HIS SUSPENSION AND MINISTERIAL FIRINGS

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Matthew Nyanplu, a former minister at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) and political leader of the proposed Party for the People, has publicly rejected an offer from the Unity Party Chairman, Rev. Luther Tarpeh, to lobby for a government position on his behalf. In a Facebook post made on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Nyanplu expressed his disappointment at the offer, stating that he felt insulted by Tarpeh’s approach.

Nyanplu, who was once a member of the ruling Unity Party (UP), emphasized that before this offer, he had received no communication from the party leadership. He made it clear that if the UP Chairman is genuinely extending a good-faith offer for him to rejoin the government, there were conditions that must first be met. Specifically, Nyanplu called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to rescind what he described as an “unjust suspension” imposed on him, and demanded the firing of Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti and the suspension of Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah for what he deemed “gross dishonesty in public service.”

In his post, Nyanplu did not stop at the Unity Party. He also criticized the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) under the leadership of Minister Augustine Ngafuan. Nyanplu accused Ngafuan of proceeding with a controversial painting contract awarded to Elite Group, despite the company allegedly using a forged letter from the US Embassy to support its bid. The US Embassy had reportedly denounced the letter as fraudulent, yet Ngafuan continued with the contract, according to Nyanplu.
