NYANPLU SLAMS AMB. SYLLA OVER ALLEGED CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATION AND CRITICIZES POLITICAL ELITES

Date:

MONROVIA – Matthew Nyanplu, leader of the proposed Party For the People, has raised concerns about two significant political issues. On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, he posted a statement addressing his party’s intention to file a complaint against Ali El-haji Souleymane Oldman Sylla, the newly appointed Ambassador to Senegal. Nyanplu accused Sylla of violating the Code of Conduct Law by engaging in political activities, despite being appointed under Article 54, which prohibits government officials from participating in political actions. Nyanplu pointed to Sylla’s recent advertisement of an upcoming retreat for ALCOP, a registered political party, as evidence of his alleged misconduct. “We will be filing a complaint with the Office of Ombudsman for this violation,” Nyanplu declared.

In addition to his criticism of Sylla, Nyanplu also expressed his views on former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor’s recent statements regarding her post-office benefits. Nyanplu expressed concern over what he sees as a growing sense of entitlement among some Liberian political figures. “While she may have a claim for some kind of benefit for her service and time in government,” Nyanplu stated, “I would hope that her voice would be more about the millions of Liberians who go to bed hungry every night than about her personal benefits and comfort.”

He continued by criticizing the government’s focus on benefiting those in power rather than the ordinary Liberian citizen. “After all these years in government, the former Vice President should advocate for the struggles of other Liberians, not just for herself. The Liberian government has always benefited those in government, rather than the people it should serve,” he added, rejecting Howard-Taylor’s call for further benefits.
