NYANPLU SLAMS UNITY PARTY FOR ENDORSING KOGAR, SAYS UP BEHIND HOUSE LEADERSHIP CRISIS

Date:

MONROVIA – 2029 presidential hopeful Mathew Nyanplu has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Unity Party (UP), condemning its recent endorsement of Representative Samuel Kogar in the upcoming Nimba County senatorial by-election. In a strongly worded statement issued Monday, April 14, Nyanplu accused the UP of being the “chief architect” of the ongoing leadership crisis in the House of Representatives.

Nyanplu, political leader of the proposed Party for the People, described Kogar as the “ringleader of the renegade members” of the legislature, whose actions have plunged the country into a constitutional dilemma, with rival factions in the House claiming authority over the Speaker’s chair.

“The Unity Party’s endorsement of Kogar confirms that the party is the architect of the leadership crisis,” Nyanplu declared. “Kogar is the ring leader of the renegade members of the House of Representatives who have got our country in the current constitutional crisis that we face, with two people claiming the Speaker role.”

The Unity Party’s official endorsement of Kogar came on Sunday, April 13, sparking swift condemnation from Nyanplu, who said the decision is proof of the UP’s willingness to prioritize political dominance over adherence to legal norms. According to him, Kogar’s past conduct in the legislature reflects open disregard for the rule of law and established procedures, which, he argues, should have made him ineligible for such backing from a party in power.

“The UP’s failure to denounce Kogar’s lawlessness at the House of Representatives and their subsequent endorsement of his bid to be Senator further confirms the party’s opportunistic and cronyistic disposition that puts entrenchment in power ahead of obedience to the laws of our country,” the statement reads.

Nyanplu further warned Liberians, particularly voters in Nimba, to recognize what he termed as “the deprave nature” of the Unity Party, accusing it of attempting to completely capture the state through backdoor alliances and disregard for democratic governance.

While withholding support for any candidate in the by-election, Nyanplu urged the people of Nimba to “vote a candidate they determine will represent their best interests at Capitol Hill and will be obedient to our nation’s laws at all times.”
