PRESIDENT BOAKAI ATTENDS ECOWAS 50TH ANNIVERSARY SUMMIT IN GHANA

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has left Liberia for Accra, Ghana to take part in the 50th anniversary celebration of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The historic summit brings together leaders from across the region to commemorate five decades of cooperation and recommit to the shared goals of peace, democracy, and economic development.

President Boakai’s attendance reaffirms Liberia’s dedication to regional integration and collaboration, especially at a time when West Africa faces critical political and economic challenges. The ECOWAS Golden Jubilee is expected to serve as a platform for assessing past achievements and charting a unified path forward.

Accompanying the President are several high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Sarah Beysolow-Nyanti, Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, Economic Adviser Morley Kamara, and Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs Anthony Myers. Members of the President’s protocol, security, and communications teams are also part of the traveling delegation.

In President Boakai’s absence, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Sylvester M. Grigsby will oversee Cabinet affairs in close consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung and the President himself through regular telephone contact, ensuring that executive operations remain uninterrupted.

During the summit, President Boakai is expected to join his regional counterparts for discussions on strengthening democratic institutions, promoting regional security, and enhancing economic cooperation. He will also hold bilateral talks aimed at promoting Liberia’s national interests and building stronger ties within the ECOWAS framework.

The President is expected to return to Monrovia on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
