PRESIDENT BOAKAI ENSURES NO INCREASE IN RICE PRICES AFTER URGENT MEETING WITH IMPORTERS

Date:

MONROVIA – Amid concerns over a potential surge in the price of 5% Broken Indian Parboiled Rice (IR64), President Joseph N. Boakai has reassured the public that rice prices will remain stable pending a comprehensive review.

The government strongly advises against hoarding this essential commodity and prohibits any cross-border transfer or transshipment of rice from Liberia. To enforce this directive, the Ministries of Justice, Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with Joint Security, are mandated to ensure full compliance.

During this crucial period, all stakeholders are urged to cooperate as the government continues to implement the ARREST Agenda for prosperity and national peace.

Yesterday, the President’s office confirmed a pivotal meeting scheduled for today, Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The meeting aims to engage stakeholders in constructive dialogue to find viable solutions to prevent a potential price hike. Through this initiative, the government showcases its dedication to fostering collaboration and seeking pragmatic solutions to pressing economic challenges.

President Boakai’s proactive measures highlight the administration’s commitment to protecting consumer interests and maintaining economic stability.
