PRESIDENT-ELECT JOE BOAKAI TAKES ON CORRUPTION AND SOCIAL CRISES TO REBUILD LIBERIA

Date:

MONROVIA – In a country plagued by rampant corruption and the illicit drug trade, Liberia’s President-Elect Joe Boakai is set to embark on a resolute journey to confront the daunting challenges that lie ahead. As the Weah regime exits, leaving behind a trail of unexplained looting of public funds, Boakai must navigate a treacherous path to restore integrity and rebuild a shattered nation.

The President-elect’s determination to address corruption and misappropriation is unwavering. This he has promised in his campaign messages to Liberians across the nation. The scale of misappropriation is staggering, with funds intended for vital purposes mysteriously vanishing under the watch of the outgoing George Weah’s CDC Government.

From funds intended to reduce excess liquidity in the economy to the over US$11 Million rice subsidies and US$4 Million which was intended to equip public schools with laboratories and chairs. These funds have been allegedly misapplied,  misused, or out-rightly stolen by public officials in the CDC government; leaving the country in dire need.

Furthermore, over US$20 million meant for the development of road infrastructure has been misappropriated, worsening the already deteriorating road network crisis.

Mr. Boakai recognizes immediate action is needed, and as promised during his campaigns trails, is likely to hold the culprits accountable for their actions.

People close to the President-elect say he will swiftly, look at the corruption issue and may establish an independent commission armed with extensive powers to investigate the unexplained looting of public resources.

The commission, according to our sources will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Another pressing issue that Boakai aims to tackle is drug consumption among the youth. Our sources say he will propose a comprehensive approach, with increased funding for rehabilitation centers and educational programs that emphasize the dangers of drugs. By prioritizing the welfare of the youth, Boakai hopes to break the cycle of addiction and pave the way for a brighter future, according to our sources.

Recognizing the importance of long-term economic stability, our sources say, insist the incoming President will break away from the CDC Government dubious scheme to short pay funds earmarked in national budget. According to them, President-elect Boakai will ensure the full utilization of funds approved in the national budget.

Through prudent fiscal policies, the former Vice President aims to restore confidence in the economy and attract foreign investment; laying the foundation for sustainable growth and development, our sources state.

They say, President-elect Boakai’s determination to rebuild Liberia extends beyond tackling corruption and drug consumption. He acknowledges the need for a strong judiciary and pledges to enhance the capacity of the justice system. By strengthening the rule of law, Boakai aims to create an environment that fosters transparency and accountability, ensuring that justice prevails.

However, Boakai is not blind to the challenges that lie ahead. The death of auditors under suspicious circumstances during the Weah regime serves as a grim reminder of the dangers associated with exposing corruption.

Undeterred, Boakai is committed to strengthening protection mechanisms for those involved in exposing corruption, ensuring their safety, and encouraging whistleblowers to come forward.

The CDC Government’s alleged reckless criminality and theft of public resources have left the nation in dire need of recovery.

As Boakai assumes the presidency, he inherits a country in desperate need of transformation. With a steadfast commitment to confronting corruption and addressing social crises head-on, embarks on a mission to bring justice, stability, and prosperity back to Liberia.

In addition to addressing specific challenges, President-elect Boakai recognizes the importance of restoring public trust and confidence in the government. He aims to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance by strengthening institutions and ensuring that the rule of law is upheld, people close too him told Concord Times.

Through these efforts, Boakai seeks to rebuild public trust and create an environment where citizens can actively participate in the nation’s development.

Undoubtedly, Boakai will face significant obstacles along his journey to transform Liberia. The reckless criminality left behind by the CDC Government poses a formidable challenge, but Boakai remains resolute in his commitment to bringing about change. He plans to strengthen anti-corruption measures, protect whistleblowers, and enhance law enforcement to combat the deep-rooted corruption that has plagued the nation.

As President-Elect Joe Boakai assumes office, he faces a multitude of challenges, ranging from not only corruption and drug abuse; but also urban decay in Liberia’s cities.

However, with his determination to fight corruption, combat drug addiction, improve urban infrastructure, and restore public trust, Boakai is poised to lead Liberia on a path towards a brighter future

The road ahead may be arduous, but President-Elect Joe Boakai remains resolute in his determination to lead Liberia irrespective of the circumstances, according to our sources.

Interestingly, President-elect Joseph Boakai made a bold and impassioned promise to the nation, vowing to confront the rampant issue of corruption that has plagued the country for far too long. Boakai, referring to corruption as a “cancer” that is eating away at Liberia, emphasized his unwavering commitment to tackling this problem head-on.

To effectively address the issue, Boakai announced his plans to assemble a team of highly respected and experienced anti-corruption experts. This team will be entrusted with the crucial responsibility of recovering embezzled funds and ill-gotten properties from officials within the Weah Government. With their impressive track records and vast knowledge, Boakai expressed confidence in their ability to deliver tangible results.

Acknowledging the importance of a comprehensive and effective investigation into the corrupt activities of the previous regime, Boakai assured the public that no challenge would be overlooked in the pursuit of justice. The scrutiny will extend to all individuals involved, directly or indirectly, in corrupt transactions, ensuring that those who have abused their positions of trust are held accountable.

In order to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process, independent institutions dedicated to fighting corruption will receive adequate funding and support. These institutions will play a crucial role in conducting meticulous investigations to unearth any illicit enrichment and ensure that justice is served. Those individuals who fail to provide a reasonable explanation for their sudden accumulation of vast wealth, disproportionate to their declared incomes, will be required to present their case before the judiciary.

Boakai emphasized that his determination to combat corruption stems from his desire to restore faith in Liberia’s democratic institutions and foster the responsible use of public resources for the benefit of all citizens. The recovery of unlawfully obtained assets will allow the redirection of funds towards vital services such as education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and job creation. Simultaneously, this initiative will serve as a strong message to Boakai’s own appointed officials, emphasizing the utmost importance of integrity. The president-elect made it clear that if any misconduct is discovered, the reinvigorated and well-resourced anti-corruption institutions will take appropriate action.

In conclusion, Boakai called upon all Liberians to unite in the fight against corruption, emphasizing that it is crucial for the future prosperity of the nation. He emphasized the need to build a fair and just society where equal opportunities are accessible to all, regardless of their backgrounds or connections.

With an unwavering determination to restore integrity, transparency, and accountability, President-elect Joseph Boakai’s administration offers a promise of a brighter and corruption-free future for Liberia.

In an official statement released shortly after the victory, the Boakai Team says in a historic twist of fate, Weah’s defeat against Boakai, marks a pivotal moment in Liberia’s political narrative.

The statement says Boakai’s triumph is hailed as a symbol of hope, ushering in a new era for the nation.

Statement points out that Liberia teeters on the edge of positive transformation, with expectations high for Boakai’s leadership to tackle challenges and guide the country toward prosperity.

Notably, according to the statement, “even Weah’s Supreme Court” cannot alter the resounding will of the people.

The statement further notes that this outcome not only signifies Weah’s loss but also restores international confidence and respect in Liberia.

The Boakai’s Team extends thanks and heartfelt appreciation to all Liberians, including CDCians, who it says quietly cast their votes for Boakai.

Without giving specifics, the statement states that the President-elect Boakai is poised to champion the rights, job security, and prosperity of all Liberians, transcending political divides, adding that the emphasis on job creation takes center stage in his vision for a united and thriving Liberia.
