SPEAKER KOFFA, ECOWAS DELEGATION MEET TO RESOLVE HOUSE CRISIS

Date:

MONROVIA – House Speaker Cllr. Jonathan F. Koffa and members of the ‘Rule of Law’ Caucus held a critical meeting with an ECOWAS High-Level Mediation Delegation on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in an effort to address the ongoing crisis within the House of Representatives. The meeting comes amid rising tensions in the legislative body, with governance concerns prompting urgent calls for intervention.

Speaker Koffa emphasized the significance of ECOWAS’s involvement, noting that the regional bloc’s presence highlights the importance of stability and support for Liberia’s political framework. He expressed optimism that the mediation effort would lead to a peaceful resolution and restore order within the House.

The internal strife within the legislative body has raised alarms over the state of democracy and the rule of law in Liberia. Stakeholders believe that the intervention by ECOWAS presents an opportunity for constructive dialogue, fostering political unity and reinforcing the credibility of the country’s democratic institutions.
