MONROVIA – R. Matenokay Tingban, one of the candidates in the recently concluded senatorial by-election in Nimba County, has extended gratitude to voters while conceding defeat to rival candidate Hon. Samuel Korgar. Tingban’s statement came just days after the county held its high-stakes election to replace the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Tingban described the late Senator Johnson as a “political godfather” and acknowledged the by-election as a necessary democratic step to fill the void left by his passing on November 28, 2024. He praised the people of Nimba for their peaceful participation in the voting process and for demonstrating what he called “mature democratic behavior.”
Tingban cited credible reports from his campaign’s situation rooms and other sources across Nimba’s nine electoral districts, confirming that Korgar holds a commanding lead in the vote count. In a show of political maturity, he urged fellow contenders to accept the results and support the winner in the interest of unity and development.
“I urge my fellow candidates to accept the results in good faith and join hands in fostering unity and progress for the betterment of Nimba County,” he stated.
Tingban’s concession adds a stabilizing voice to what had been a highly contested and emotionally charged race, particularly following the passing of one of Liberia’s most polarizing and influential political figures. His message emphasized the need to turn the page and focus on peace, reconciliation, and progress for the people of Nimba.
“May God Almighty continue to bless Nimba and all our peace-loving citizens,” he concluded.
