TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE OR PROPER ADJUDICATION?

Date:

…The Role Of Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Nuoh In The Millard Hage Property Litigation

MONROVIA – The long running Milad R. Hage estate dispute involving Nohad Hage, his oldest Liberian child, and Oumou Sirleaf, mother of Bashir Hage, Raquel Hage, and Monica Hage, has taken a dramatic twist with the Clerk’s Office of the Debt Court at the Temple of Justice citing the parties to a conference at the order of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Honorable Sie-A-Nyene G. Youh.

Legal pundits weighing in on the matter have raised concern about Honorable Sie-A-Nyene G. Youh sudden involvement in the case since her earlier recusal from the same case as reflected in the full-bench ruling of the Supreme Court dated September 5, 2022.

Honorable Yuoh had recused herself from the hearing and determination of the case and did not sign the September 5, 2022 ruling.

In a letter dated April 2, 2025 under the signature of the Clerk of Debt Court, Marcathy S. Hne Jr. said, His Honor, James E. Jones, Resident Judge of the Debt Court for Montserrado County, Temple of Justice, Republic of Liberia, and Special Assigned Judge for the Millard R. Hage Estate of the Monthly and Probate Court for Montserrado County has ordered the Clerk of Court, at the request of Her Honor, Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, Chief Justice of the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia to cite the parties to a Conference with Her Honor at her Chambers on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the precise Hour of 3:00PM. From court records, the conference was held on April 3, 2025 as ordered.

During the conference, the legal team of Nohad Hage reminded the Honorable Supreme Court of the September 5, AD 2022 mandate which directed Judge Jones, the lower court judge, to require Ms. Oumou Sirleaf Hage to perform proper accounting for her stewardship of the estate of Millard R. Hage, something Oumou Sirleaf has outright refused to do. They also wondered why a citation for conference by the Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh did not come through the clerk of the Supreme Court but rather through the lower court clerk. “Furthermore, why is Honorable Sie-A-Nyene G. Youh suddenly reinserting herself in the same case from which she had earlier recused herself and for which there is currently a related appeal before the full-bench? Do these facts represent travesty of justice or proper adjudication according to law?” a legal pundit wondered.
