WEAH PRAYS AT JESUS’ TOMB APPARENTLY SEEKING FORGIVENESS AS LIBERIA DRAWS TO ELECTION

Date:

MONROVIA – With less than three months to Liberia’s presidential and legislative elections, the country’s president, George M. Weah is on the hunt by all means, including a holy site for his reelection on October 10, this year.

A few days ago, Weah and his delegation visited Jerusalem – the visit was reportedly arranged by the Weah administration, according to a source in the administration. The source further narrated to Smart News Liberia that the President visits at the holiest site where Jesus was buried, was to take photos at Jesus’ tomb and use the photos during the election campaign…

Christians around the world visit Jesus’ tomb in Jerusalem. It is considered one of the holiest sites in the Christian faith, the tomb receives a lot of traffic throughout the year. Although there are two sites that archaeologist claim to be the tomb of Jesus, both are open to the public.

Howbeit, some of the photos are unimaginable – and have gone viral on social media. The photos depict some officials of the delegation who are allegedly engulfed in massive corruption and unpleasant habits, kneeling and praying before Jesus’ tomb.

On Saturday, July 1, President Weah and delegation left the country for a three-day working visit to Israel and accordingly held bilateral discussions with the President of the State of Israel, Mr. Isaac Herzog, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.

However, one of the photos depicts President Weah standing bowing at Jesus’s tomb offering prayers – prayers that could be for forgiveness; the country’s election, or for the most, his ambition, reelection.

While some photos depict some officials of the delegation on bending knees; others laying on their bellies…

A political pundit who spoke to Smart News Liberia on anonymity further said seeing the photos showed Liberia lacks the credential of a country under CDC-led administration because the President shows no leadership skills.

He said the President’s visit to Israel won’t benefit the country in no way nor change the president’s bad leadership style of managing the country, but benefit the president, adding the president used those unofficial visits to pocket the country’s money, including his confidants.

“Corruption has deepened in the CDC-led government. The President has failed to take serious action against alleged public officials…”

“Here is the President who quote-unquote a pastor; and the country is worse than ever before… in his administration, some public officials stealing all over the place,” he said angrily.

Howbeit, the President and his ruling party, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), nearly 6 years of his regime in acute desperation for the presidency on October 10, 2023.

President Weah’s administration since coming to power in 2017 has been tied to alleged massive corruption and other missteps in governance. The President’s missteps according to some political pundits, have given the President a ground that could pose a serious threat to the CDC-led government reelection.

Also commenting on the photos, was a former member of the ruling CDC, Nkt Pekin who posted on Facebook saying, “Today, they’re looking for Jesus’ bones to touch so as to be re-elected. That Congo Town prophet lied to y’all! Power will leave your hands; don’t even think about rigging the elections!”
