WOMAN ARRESTED IN SINOE WITH HIGH-GRADE MARIJUANA

Date:

GREENVILLE – In a major push against illegal drug trafficking in rural Liberia, officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Sinoe County arrested a 40-year-old woman in possession of a substantial quantity of high-grade marijuana during a targeted operation pqq+on April 8, 2025.

The suspect, Catherine Borteh, a resident of Borteh Town in District #1, was caught with three and a half plates of high-grade marijuana, pwith an estimated street value of USD $350, or approximately LRD 66,500. Authorities say the arrest was carried out at around 7:00 a.m. by the General Commander of the county detachment and his team, following intelligence-led surveillance.

Borteh was immediately taken into custody, investigated, and formally charged with the illegal possession and sale of narcotics. She has since been forwarded to court for prosecution in keeping with Liberian law.

The LDEA described the operation as part of its broader nationwide campaign to disrupt the drug trade and reduce the harmful impact of narcotics in communities. While rural areas like Sinoe are often overlooked in major enforcement efforts, the agency says drug activity in these regions is growing and poses a serious threat to public health and safety.
