MONROVIA – State security apparatus have announced that as of Thursday, 18th January 2024, the ever-busy Tubman Boulevard, is a no go zone for motorcycles and tricycles, widely known locally as kehkeh.
Liberia’s 26th President, Joe Boakai’s inauguration is slated for Monday, 22nd January, and public safety protocols for the occasion, as announced by the Joint Security today, indicate that operators of vehicles, motorbikes, and tricycles are to adhere to these measures.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on the grounds of the Capitol Building, Capitol Hill, Monrovia, with the Joint Security ordering additionally that as of 18th January, no motorbike, tricycle, and heavy duty trucks will be allowed to ply the highway leading from the country’s lone international airport, Roberts International Airport (RIA), to ELWA Junction.
Heavy duty trucks conductors wishing to come to Monrovia via the RIA route will be allowed to do so through the 15th Gate, Firestone Road, during the Joint Security operation for the inauguration.
According to the Joint Security, motorbike and tricycle operators from Gardnersville and Duala will be detoured through Waterside and return through the same route during this operation.
On inauguration day, Monday, 22nd January 2024, vehicular traffic from ELWA to Monrovia will be diverted to Jallah Town, Sinkor, by assigned officers, while vehicles plying from Central Monrovia through Sinkor will be diverted to Jallah Town through Bestman Corner.
Vehicular movement from 20th Street, 19th Street, 12th Street, 9th Street, 1st Street, Capital Byepass intersection, Bassa Community, and Conex Head Office, will be diverted by assigned officers on inauguration day.
Meanwhile, as a way of avoiding any inconvenience, the Joint Security is warning those without invitation to the inauguration, to stay clear of the Inaugural Grounds up Capitol Hill, Monrovia.
Those with vehicular and individual ACCESS passes are advised to at all times display them to avoid inconvenience.
The Joint Security has also ordered that all unauthorized vendors of petroleum products stay off the main streets in Monrovia and its environs.
