MAYOR JOHN CHARUK-SIAFA CRITICIZED FOR COMMENT AGAINST UP YOUTH

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Mayor of Monrovia, John Charuk-Siafa, has come under fire for a comment he made towards the youth of the ruling Unity Party. He stated that he is not obligated to provide job opportunities to either Unity Party or its youth. This comment has been interpreted as the mayor distancing himself from the youth and partisans and his unwillingness to help them.

The Unity Party’s youth chairperson in Montserrado County, Sylvester Wonplue, posted a Facebook reaction criticizing the mayor’s comment. He stated that the mayor’s decision to distance himself from the youth and partisans was unfortunate. Wonplue reminded the mayor that he was lucky to have been nominated by the president of Liberia to serve as the Mayor of Monrovia.

Wonplue added that although they do not have any problem with the mayor’s decision, they are praying for him to succeed. However, he warned the mayor that if he called on the young people for support in the future, they may not be willing to provide it since he has distanced himself from them.

Wonplue concluded his post by reminding the mayor that he has a political job, and he should be prepared for a political battle. He also stated that the Montserrado Youth Congress is open to every government that is willing to work with them.

It has been alleged that Mayor Siafa is a close relative of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
