GRAND KRU CO., LIBERIA – The Grand Kru Technical College recently concluded a three-day transformative workshop from April 11-12, 2024, at the Barclayville Central High School Auditorium in Green Hill Community, Barclayville City. This event marked a significant milestone for the college and attendees alike.
The opening ceremony saw an inspiring address by Senator Numene T.H Bartekwa, Chairman of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus and University of Liberia Board of Trustees. His motivational words set the tone for the event, emphasizing the importance of education and community development.
Associate Professor Dr. Josephus M Gray, Co-chair of the Grand Kru Technical College Board of Trustees and Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Liberia, provided an overview of the workshop’s objectives. His international role as Sharda University Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia added depth to his insights.
The workshop, themed “Improving Workplace Efficiency: Train, Inspire and Equip,” aimed to shape a brighter future for Liberian students and enhance the Grand Kru Technical College’s standing in Southeastern Liberia. Approximately 150 participants, including faculty, staff, administrators, student groups, and county stakeholders from Grand Kru, Maryland, and Montserrado, attended the event.
The two-day academic session focused on quality teaching, learning, and practical research. It provided a platform for stakeholders to share hands-on skills, fostering community spirit and collaboration. Beyond teaching techniques and academic knowledge, the workshop aimed to transform professional standards in education and align the Technical College with global standards.
Facilitators included esteemed professionals such as Dr. Josephus M. Gray, Vice Presidents Mr. P. Dan Bestman and Rev. P. Tenenso Brohdonyen, as well as Dr. Wreh from Grand Kru Health Center and Mr. Norwane Karmeih, the Grand Kru Chief Education Officer. Topics ranged from quality teaching and research to conflict resolution and fostering a professional environment.
The Grand Kru Technical College, established in February 2019, transitioned from a TVET status to a full-fledged Technical College in 2023. It offers a two-year Associate degree in six major disciplines and plans to expand to Bachelor’s degree programs in the future. The college’s establishment was facilitated by an Act of the National Legislature of Liberia, and its Board of Trustees was appointed by former President Dr. George Manneh Weah.
Located in Green Hill Community, Barclayville City, the college boasts a faculty comprising Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degree holders with extensive expertise both locally and internationally. With its motto, “Enlightening Minds to Unlocking Potentials,” the college exemplifies structured academic and administrative excellence.
