LIBERIA: FAMILY OF LATE PRINCESS COOPER EXPRESSES FRUSTRATION OVER JUSTICE DELAY

Date:

MONROVIA – The family of the late Princess Cooper has expressed frustration over the handling of her case since her tragic death on March 24, 2022. The family has been actively seeking justice, aiding investigators, staging peaceful marches, and even contacting independent forensic pathologists from outside Liberia.

Since the incident, the family has raised several concerns about the investigation process:

  1. The crime scene was exposed and not protected for a certain period, potentially compromising evidence.
  2. Residents and witnesses in the vicinity of the crime scene were not adequately questioned.
  3. Only certain individuals were identified as persons of interest, with some identities not disclosed to the public.
  4. The initial police report concluded no foul play without conducting a medical examination.
  5. The family raised concerns about the qualifications of the pathologist conducting the autopsy, but their objections were not heeded.
  6. The Liberia National Police failed to provide a comprehensive report of their investigation.
  7. The family has felt disregarded in communications with the authorities.
  8. Efforts to bring independent forensic pathologists to Liberia were met with hurdles and resistance.
  9. Despite their efforts, including formal communications and peaceful protests, the family feels the path to justice has been obstructed.

In light of these challenges, the family has requested the return of Princess Cooper’s body for a dignified burial, seeing the current path to justice as fruitless.
