PRES. BOAKAI COMMENDS MCC ON 20TH ANNIVERSARY, HIGHLIGHTS PROGRAM’S IMPACT

During the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) at the George W. Bush Center in Dallas, Texas, the President of Liberia congratulated the organization and highlighted its significant impact on developing countries, including Liberia, over the past two decades.

According to a press release from the Executive Mansion, during a breakfast meeting on May 6, 2024, the Liberian President highlighted the transformative impact of the MCC Compact. He emphasized its positive effects on sectors such as electricity, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, noting that the program has significantly improved access to basic services for Liberians. The President also mentioned that the Compact has empowered the poor and promoted shared values.

President Boakai acknowledged the challenges of implementing the MCC Compact but pledged to work diligently to improve Liberia’s readiness and performance. He stressed the importance of local ownership and building systems to enhance critical sectors for sustainable development.

The President encouraged donors and investors to view Liberia as a country committed to long-term initiatives that would support economic growth. He welcomed investments that would leverage local knowledge and expertise for mutual long-term benefits.

President Boakai’s remarks underscored Liberia’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth. He emphasized the need for continued investment in Liberia and other developing countries, as well as the importance of long-term strategic planning to achieve government agendas.

The President called on stakeholders to continue investing in Liberia’s future, highlighting his administration’s commitment to improving the business climate in Liberia.

The breakfast meeting was attended by Presidents and officials from Malawi, Cape Verde, Kosovo, Botswana, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, as well as high-level business leaders, investors, donors, MCC Board Members, and US Government Officials.
