VP KOUNG URGES JUDGES TO UPHOLD RULE OF LAW AND ENSURE FAIRNESS IN JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a recent address delivered through a proxy at the Annual African Regional Group Conference, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung emphasized the crucial role of judges in ensuring the fair administration of justice. The conference, held at the EJS Ministerial Complex, focused on the theme “The Judiciary in Contemporary Times: Dispensing Justice in the New Information Age.”

Vice President Koung’s proxy highlighted the impact of the new information age on African societies, noting the rapid dissemination of information across the continent. He emphasized the need for the judicial system to adapt to these changes, promoting equity, creating opportunities, and lifting people out of poverty.

The Vice President stressed the importance of government accountability to its people, noting that the judiciary plays a crucial role in ensuring this accountability. He emphasized the need for an independent judiciary that protects the rights of all citizens under the law, highlighting the consequences of failing to uphold the rule of law, which can lead to discontent, disruption, and instability.

Under the leadership of President Joseph Nyema Boakai, Liberia has prioritized the implementation of the rule of law as a pillar of governance, as outlined in the ARREST Agenda. The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Liberian judiciary in safeguarding the rule of law and ensuring the equitable dispensation of justice.

In conclusion, Vice President Koung’s remarks underscored the importance of the judiciary in maintaining a just and accountable government, particularly in the context of the evolving challenges posed by the new information age.
