MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE DR. NUETAH UNVEILS AMBITIOUS AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Date:

LIBERIA – In an interview with journalists in Gbarnga, Bong County, at the Minister of Agriculture validation workshop on Thursday, 15th, Minister of Agriculture Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah discussed the National Agriculture Development Plan. Dr. Nuetah outlined the details of Liberia’s plan, which aims to revolutionize the agricultural sector by focusing on key areas such as food security, supply chain management, and mechanization. The goal is to boost production and reduce post-harvest losses.

Dr. Nuetah emphasized the importance of not just developing plans on paper but ensuring their meticulous implementation. He stressed the need for adequate resources and commitment from both the government and development partners to achieve the plan’s objectives.

One of the critical aspects of the plan is the development of 50,000 hectares of land for rice production, with a focus on engaging smallholder farmers through cooperatives. This approach aims to increase productivity and make agricultural activities more sustainable.

Additionally, the plan includes initiatives to promote cassava production, particularly in regions like Grand Bassa and Margibi County, where mechanization can significantly enhance productivity. The ministry also plans to establish production zones in various counties to ensure accessibility to raw materials for processing.

To gather insights and incorporate farmers’ needs into the plan, the ministry will conduct extensive tours across the country, starting with Lofa County. These tours will help assess the current agricultural conditions and tailor interventions accordingly.

In conclusion, Minister Nuetah expressed optimism about the future of Liberia’s agricultural sector, highlighting the need for collaboration and investment to drive sustainable growth and development. He called on all stakeholders to join hands in realizing the vision of a prosperous agricultural sector that benefits all Liberians.
