SUP DENOUNCES PRESIDENT BOAKAI’S FIRST 100 DAYS AS A “PERIOD OF LIES AND CONTRADICTIONS

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The University of Liberia’s campus-based political group, the Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP), has issued a strong response to President Joseph Boakai’s 100-day report, accusing him of lies and contradictions. SUP has called for the immediate revision of all concession agreements and assured the Liberian masses of a renewed struggle against Boakai’s ineptitude and greed.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, May 28, in Monrovia, SUP stated that in January 2024, Boakai promised an agenda reflecting change and a paradigm shift in governance. However, after more than 100 days in office, the Boakai-Koung administration has only delivered lies, deceit, and contradictions. Despite his claimed 42 years of experience, President Boakai has exacerbated poverty, hardship, and corruption.

SUP critically examines the failed hundred days of the Unity Party-led administration under President Boakai, focusing on several sectors: Education, Health, Economy, Good Governance, Corruption, Security, and Sanitation.

Education:

Boakai promised to enhance the capacity of 10,000 youths in ICT and secure scholarship opportunities for Liberian students. However, over 100 days later, these promises remain unfulfilled. The much-heralded scholarship promises have turned into a show of empty braggadocio. SUP calls on Boakai to stop deceiving the Liberian people and to deliver on his education promises.

Economy:

The Liberian economy suffers from mismanagement, high unemployment, and rising commodity prices. Boakai’s promise to restore economic dignity has proven pretentious. Patronage, cronyism, and nepotism dominate employment, denying qualified young Liberians opportunities. SUP condemns the administration for failing to deliver economic relief and urges resilience against Boakai’s greed.

Good Governance and Corruption:

Boakai’s promises of good governance and anti-corruption measures have been mere lip service. Allegations of abuse of power and cronyism have gone unaddressed. Boakai’s administration has failed to audit the previous government or declare assets transparently. SUP demands Boakai fulfill his anti-corruption promises and audit both the Weah government and the Unity Party’s 12 years of misrule.

Security:

Illicit drug abuse and insecurity have increased under the Boakai-Koung administration. The government’s declared war on drugs has failed, with new drugs emerging. SUP calls for collective resistance against the administration’s failures and demands a safer Liberia.

Sanitation and Water:

Boakai promised to clean Monrovia and restore pipe-borne water in key cities within 100 days. Instead, sanitation has worsened. SUP demands the government fulfill its promises on sanitation and water, emphasizing the right of all citizens to a clean environment and safe water.

Concessions:

SUP condemns the abuse and exploitation by foreign concession companies like Bea Mountain and Western Cluster. The party demands a revision of all concession agreements to protect local communities and ensure fair treatment of workers.

The Vanguard Party declares the “12 key objectives” of Boakai’s 100-day deliverables as failures, contrary to the administration’s self-assessed 87% success rate. SUP urges the Liberian masses to remain steadfast in the struggle against Boakai’s leadership.
