LACC AND OFFICE OF THE OMBUDSMAN STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION TO COMBAT CORRUPTION IN LIBERIA

Date:

MONROVIA  – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and the Office of the Ombudsman of Liberia held a pivotal meeting on July 9, 2024, aimed at enhancing cooperation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building between the two institutions. This high-level gathering was focused on creating a robust framework for collaboration to combat corruption and promote greater accountability and transparency in Liberia.

Recognizing the critical importance of joint efforts to improve governance and uphold the rule of law, representatives from both organizations engaged in productive discussions. These discussions centered on exploring avenues for joint initiatives, information sharing, and coordinated efforts to combat corruption more effectively; exchanging best practices, expertise, and insights to enhance each institution’s ability to address corruption-related challenges; and identifying training opportunities, resources, and support mechanisms to build the technical and operational capacities of both organizations.

The discussions underscored the mutual commitment to fostering a transparent, accountable, and corruption-free Liberia. Both parties emphasized the necessity of ongoing dialogue and cooperation to achieve their shared goals.

Commenting on the meeting, Cllr. Alexandra Kormah Zoe, Executive Chairperson of the LACC, stated, “This meeting marks a crucial step in our efforts to build a strong and united front against corruption. By working closely with the Office of the Ombudsman, we can leverage our strengths and resources to drive meaningful change and foster a culture of integrity in Liberia.”

Cllr. Finley Karnga, Chairman of the Office of the Ombudsman of Liberia, added, “We are committed to collaborating with the LACC to enhance our collective capabilities in fighting corruption. Through knowledge sharing and capacity building, we aim to create a more transparent and accountable governance system for the benefit of all Liberians.”

The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge to maintain open communication and cooperation between the two institutions. Discussions on future engagements and joint initiatives were also held to ensure sustained progress in the fight against corruption.

The LACC, Liberia’s leading anti-corruption agency, is dedicated to educating, preventing, investigating, and prosecuting corruption to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance. The Office of the Ombudsman serves as an independent oversight body, ensuring government accountability, addressing citizens’ grievances, and promoting integrity within public institutions.
