PRESIDENT-ELECT JULIUS KANUBAH RALLIES JOURNALISTS AS PRESS UNION OF LIBERIA CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY

Date:

MONROVIA – In a heartfelt message marking the 60th Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) on Monday, September 30, President-Elect Julius Kanubah has called upon journalists and media professionals to reaffirm their commitment to the PUL and uphold the values of professional, responsible, and ethical journalism.

Kanubah emphasized that loyalty to the PUL, as a fraternity dedicated to public information and integrity, is essential for fostering the professional solidarity that binds members together. He urged journalists to prioritize collective interests over personal gains, ensuring that the integrity of the profession remains intact.

Reflecting on the current state of the PUL, Kanubah encouraged media workers to engage in introspection and offer constructive suggestions aimed at advancing both the Union and the broader field of journalism in Liberia. He underscored the need to improve working conditions and maintain professional integrity within the media landscape.

In a press statement, Kanubah outlined his vision for the newly elected leadership, pledging to restore credibility, integrity, and dignity to the PUL through a clearly defined agenda. This agenda will focus on accountable leadership, impartial advocacy, the construction of a new PUL Headquarters, support for women in journalism, sustainable media development, and the establishment of media hubs across the counties to better serve journalists.

He noted that the PUL’s 60th anniversary coincides with a pivotal moment in its history, as the organization undergoes a democratic transition following nearly two years of leadership paralysis.

Kanubah assured that the new leadership team is collaborating with the Interim Committee (IC), led by former PUL President Peter Quaqua, to induct the democratically elected officers in accordance with the ruling from the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County.

He commended the IC for its integrity, diligence, and commitment to ensuring a legitimate leadership is elected and installed to restore the PUL. The IC includes esteemed members known for their moral integrity, such as Elizabeth Hoff, James Kiazolu, Frank Sainworla, Winston Monboe, Teah Doegmah, Weade Kobbah-Boley, Malcolm Joseph, Helen Nah-Sammie, Peter Kahler, and Jacob Parley.
