MONROVIA – The Supreme Court of Liberia has officially acknowledged receipt of a petition for reargument filed by the majority bloc of the House of Representatives, following a recent ruling by the nation’s highest court.
The motion, filed within the legal window of three days after the ruling, was submitted in accordance with the rules governing Supreme Court procedures. Under those rules, a reargument petition can only be accepted if it carries the signature of at least one Justice who concurred in the original decision.
Sources within the judiciary have confirmed that Associate Justice Sianneh Clinton Johnson, one of the four Justices who sided with the majority opinion in the ruling, affixed her signature to the petition. This procedural act now places a stay on the enforcement of the earlier judgment.
As a result, the case will return to the full bench of the Supreme Court for a fresh round of legal arguments. A new date will be scheduled for both parties to appear and present their positions.
