SATCON LIBERIA SHUT DOWN AFTER SUPREME COURT RULING ON CONTENT PIRACY

MONROVIA – Satcon Liberia’s headquarters in Congo Town was ordered closed on Friday, May 16, 2025, following a Supreme Court decision that found the company guilty of violating intellectual property rights related to the unauthorized broadcast of sports content.

The enforcement was carried out by the Civil Law Court in Montserrado County after the Supreme Court, in a February 18 ruling, determined that Satcon and K3 Telecom had unlawfully aired exclusive sports programming belonging to MultiChoice Africa and SuperSport. The broadcasting rights for these contents are held in Liberia by Consolidated Group.

The legal challenge was initiated by Semion Freeman, General Manager of Consolidated Group, who alleged that his company suffered losses exceeding US$5 million due to Satcon’s unauthorized transmission of English Premier League and La Liga matches.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court concluded that Satcon acted with full awareness of its infringement and ordered the company to cease all broadcasts of the protected material. The court warned that any further violations would result in contempt proceedings.

With the ruling now enforced, Satcon Liberia’s operations remain suspended as legal and financial consequences loom for the embattled company.
